Rucco Maag Shrine / Five Flames – BotW

The Rucco Maag Shrine is one of the more annoying Shrines in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It’s in the middle of nowhere and it’s easy to mess up, but here’s how to complete it!

Quick Tip: This Shrine will be much easier if you have Fire Arrows!

Upon entering the Shrine, you’ll see the Monk straight ahead of you, guarded by a gate locked by a puzzle on the right. The puzzle works like this: There are two hovering cubes, the larger one is controlled by the crystal switches on the smaller one. The aim is to light all the torches on the larger cube on fire, one of them is already alight. By shooting the crystals on the smaller cube, you can move the larger cube in the direction you choose of the options given!

One problem though, one of the sides on the larger cube has a water spout which will extinguish the flame it is pointing to, and the floor as a gap filled with water that will also extinguish the flames. To get all the torches on fire, you’ll need to move the cubes around using the crystals in order to spread the five flames. Unfortunately, the shrine is different for every user, for example, for my first attempt it was:

Once you have all the torches on fire, the gate should open and you can reach the monk! However, this Shrine is much easier to complete if you shoot the crystals so the water spout is facing either the top or bottom and simply shoot all the torches with fire arrows to light them all!

Chests: Around the back of the Shrine, behind the larger cube there are two chests on wooden platforms. You can either shoot them with fire arrows, another fire weapon or use a regular arrows through the flames of the puzzle. One of the chests contains an Opal and the other contains a Silver Bow!

Now, once you’ve completed the Shrine you can walk through to the next room and acquire the Spirit Orb from the Shrine’s Monk!
